small ruminant lentiviruses, anthelmintic resistance


I graduated with a diploma of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca (USAMV-CN) (Romania) in 2016. Four years later (2020), I received my Ph.D title having graduated “Summa cum laude” at the same University, with the thesis entitled “Serological testing of individual and bulk-tank milk samples for the investigation of caprine arthritis-encephalitis (CAE) prevalence in Romania” supervised by Prof. Dr. Marina Spînu and Dr. hab. Olga Szalus-Jordanow. The main aims of the thesis were to establish if milk can be used as an alternative material instead of serum for the detection of small ruminant lentiviruses (SRLV) infection, to investigate the feasibility of bulk-tank milk (BTM) testing for the diagnosis of SRLV infection and to estimate the prevalence of CAE from Transylvania by using bulk-tank milk as a matrix. Based on our results, we concluded that individual milk samples can be used as an alternative matrix for the detection of SRLV antibodies in dairy goats by use of commercial ELISAs; that BTM samples can be used to estimate the within-herd prevalence of SRLV infection by use of commercial ELISAs (e.g., IDVet); finally, that the use of IDVet ELISA could be a suitable approach for surveillance and monitoring purposes of SRLV-infection at the herd level.
