Main area of interest is in disease prevention programs to increase on-farm productivity and profitability. Specific areas include: Footrot, lamb survival, calcium metabolism, reproductive management.
Bruce completed his BVSc at the University of Sydney, and worked at both Massey University and University of Melbourne (Mackinnon Project) before setting up his own sheep and beef cattle consultancy practice, as well as operating a sheep and cattle property in southern NSW.
Bruce completed a MVS at University of Melbourne and a PhD (studies relating to footrot) at University of Sydney. Bruce was the National Coordinator (Australia) for National Ovine Johne's Disease Program from 1997-2004.
Bruce has been an active member of the Australian Sheep Veterinary Society and a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, including previously being a member of the Examiner's Board. Bruce is a registered Sheep specialist.
In 2009 Bruce took up a part-time position as Director of Charles Sturt University's Fred Morley Centre, based in the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences. He is currently Professor of Livestock Systems and Director.
Bruce is an AVA auditor for Australia Wool Innovation's Breech Flystrike Research Program.
