Dip.ECSRHM, Dip.ECAWBM, currently runs Veterinary Consultancy Services delivering consultancy, advice and support in and to Sheep Health and Production and Small Ruminant Health Management arenas, as well as maintaining an overview on animal welfare issues in particular farm animal welfare and methods of assessment of welfare in practical dynamic situations. Prior to setting up this consultancy, he was in clinical, first-opinion practice for 25 years,where he was mainly involved in farm animal work. He passed the RCVS Certificate examination in Sheep Health and Production in 1987, continued on the specialist training route to be awarded the Diploma in Sheep Health and Production in 1991 and was accepted as a specialist in this area by the RCVS in 1992 (the first year a specialist list was published by the RCVS). He also holds the certificate in Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law from the RCVS. He is a past council member and past President of the British Sheep Veterinary Society and acted as the first secretary of the European College of Small Ruminant Health Management. He was elected to President of the College for the 2011-2014 term at the AGM of the College in Athens. He was awarded the John Rodger quaiche by the Sheep Veterinary Society in 2008 He has a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals, as well as chapters in books; he is regularly consulted by the veterinary and farming press and regularly contributes to CPD and extension work for veterinary surgeons, farmers and other audiences including SQPs.
